SESSION DESCRIPTIONS

SATURDAY

MAIN THEATER

9:30 - 10:30 AM Introduction to Hybrid Shooting and VCS with Michael Britt
• Michael will provide an overview of the collision of stills and video including a look at the new equipment and technologies available to help photographers transition to shooting video with hybrid cameras. He will be presenting the Redrock Micro Image Mechanics VCS kit which allows photographers to shoot in vertical orientation (preferred format for print publications) while delivering video snippets to their clients. "The goal should be to provide some movement and sound to our print clients for their websites and other electronic media, not to try and deliver Citizen Kane." Skyscraper banner ads, digital signage, iPhone video and web video in general, have broken the constraints of the horizontal platform imposed originally by tube televisions and theater projectors opening up interesting opportunities for visual artists.

10:45 - 11:45 AM Living Art - The Future of Motion in Photography with Alexx Henry
• Living Art is a term for hybrid photo/motion work. Alexx will spend some time defining the unique character of Living Art, how it is distinct from other mediums and what makes it a viable commercial and visual art form. He'll cover some of the developing technologies that will be instrumental in how we ingest media in the future, and discuss Living Art's potential and future based on these technologies.

2:15 - 3:15 PM Canon 5D Mark II Editing Workflow for Final Cut Pro with Frank Rohmer
• Frank Rohmer, noted creator or the instructional DVD “Photography Video Workflow: Final Cut Pro + Canon 5D Mark II” will provide an introductory overview of the editing process specifically geared to photographers. He will discuss the tools and techniques that you need to be aware of as you begin editing your videos and show an example of what can easily be accomplished by an “average” photographer after just a few hours of training.

4:15 - 5:15 PM Igniting Fusion with Jeff Jochum of SmugMug Pro
• Get the scoop on the creation of some of the best on-line fusion videos. Jeff Jochum of SmugMug Pro will share the triumphs and frustrations of the fusion-video creators that are on the cutting edge of the movement, including Vincent LaForet, Bob Davis, The Bebbs, JVS and others. Sit back, relax and prepare to Drop. Your. Jaw.

5:30 - 6:30 PM Keynote Address - My Evolution from Stills to Cinema by Vincent Laforet
• Vincent will share the lessons he has learned over the last year of his career as he transitioned from still photographer to cinematographer . Using images and footage that he has created along with behind the scenes glimpses into his process, he will take the audience along on his amazing journey. Vincent is uniquely qualified to address the questions of still photographers transitioning to video and multimedia, Vincent discusses both the technical issues and, more importantly, the creative possibilities of new technology.

5:30 - 6:30 PM Keynote Address - by Shane Hurlbut ASC -Catch The Wave: How Still Photography Changes The Way We Make Movies
Shane Hurlbut will provide a stimulating, interactive discussion about the Canon 5D Mark II camera and how it changes the way movies are being made. Hurlbut refers to this camera as a “game changer” because of its versatility. Important features include: compact nature of the camera itself, lighter still lenses, image stabilizing ability, and flexibility to accent the action in new ways with increased depth and sharpness. The camera gives a cinematographer the ability to capture shots spontaneously with an unprecedented depth of field. It’s greatest benefit is the small footprint: a compact, lightweight camera that travels easily, grabs stealth shots with amazing resolution, requires a smaller crew, works well with a minimal budget, yet provides unlimited creativity!
